Minor league baseball can help with small and big problems

First, the good news.

For those in the northwest who love baseball, Vancouver is combining love and baseball.

The Northwest League's Canadians are offering a Valentine's Day packaged called the "Cupid Pack," which includes 10 any-game tickets complete with a rose to that special someone. The Cupid Packs, which sell for $99, will be delivered to that special someone’s house or office by a Canadians’ staff member.

Now the sad news.

As many of you already know, Jackson, Tennessee was walloped by tornados last night. It appears Pringles Field, home of the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, was spared some of the damage. In other areas the damage was catastrophic.

At least 40 people have been confirmed dead. An entire university, Union, was nearly wiped off the map. Cars were tossed like pretzels, many coming to resemble the twisted snacks.

Those close to The Dugout know that Jackson was a summer stop for one of the inspirations for the site. While it’s too early for the Diamond Jacks and minor league baseball to announce relief efforts, they are undoubtedly coming. The Dugout will keep you posted.

In the meantime, keep a good thought for the people of western Tennessee.
